Bone Grafting for Dental Implant Success
Dental implants may be your best option for natural-looking teeth and optimal
oral health. The success of dental implants relies on a strong jaw bone. Bone
grafting promotes dental implant success, even or people who have experienced bone density loss. These procedures can be completed at your local Rio Rancho family dentist.
Why Is Bone Grafting Necessary?
The jaw bone exists primarily to support your teeth. When teeth are lost, the jaw bone quickly atrophies. Age, infection and conditions like osteoporosis may also cause bone loss.
Without proper bone density and/or bone growth activity, the metal posts of the dental implant may
not have sufficient anchor material and/or the osseointegration process that secures the
post may not occur.
Bone grafting can supplement existing bone to ensure a strong foundation for dental implants.
Rio Rancho Dental Implant Bone Grafting Procedure
There are three main types of bone grafting procedures. The condition of your jaw bone and location of future implants will determine which type of procedure Dr. Fife will perform, and he will explain the process in detail in a pre-operative consultation.
All bone grafting procedures are minimally-invasive in-office oral surgeries, and so the preparation for them is similar. To be ready for bone grafting, you should:
- Discontinue use of all tobacco products for at least 24 hours prior to the procedure.
- Take any medications prescribed by Dr. Fife as directed.
- Wear comfortable clothes on the day of the procedure.
Patients receiving oral conscious sedation should also have a driver present to take them home once the bone grafting procedure is done. Detailed written instructions for post-op recovery will be sent home with you.
Although bone grafting is a minimally-invasive procedure, we understand how scary it may sound. For many, the anxiety can be enough to put off getting the dental care you need. At Fife Dental Care, we want you to get the high quality dental care you deserve without delay, so we offer sedation treatment to ensure your comfort and relaxation. Contact Fife Dental Care to schedule an appointment and learn more about how we make it our goal to ensure your bone grafting and dental implant procedures are anxiety-free.
