Causes of Tooth Pain
Symptoms of Tooth Pain
Toothache symptoms can vary depending on the cause of pain and severity of the issue. Pain may be relatively mild and intermittent – such as a sensitivity to hot and cold foods – or it may be constant. Sharp and throbbing pain are both common. You may experience a foul taste in your mouth or unusually persistent bad breath. Pain may also be accompanied by fever, ear ache, headache and swollen sinuses if infection is present.
Causes of Tooth Pain
Tooth pain generally occurs when the outer layer of enamel is damaged, revealing the sensitive pulp beneath. Pulp is filled with blood vessels and nerve endings, and exposure of these nerve endings can result in a significant amount of pain.
Anything that causes damage to enamel can result in pain. The most common issue is tooth decay, but injuries and tooth grinding that lead to chipped and broken enamel can be an issue as well.
