Porcelain veneers have many cosmetic and dental health benefits.
Porcelain veneers:

  • Can be used to correct a number of smile issues, including:

  • Are natural looking – you can select a porcelain shade that matches your natural enamel (or enamel that has been whitened).
  • Are durable – porcelain veneers are made of materials engineered to withstand the normal pressures associated with biting and chewing. (However, porcelain veneers should be protected from excessive pressure associated with bruxism.)
  • Require minimal, non-invasive tooth preparation – porcelain veneers overlay natural enamel, so they require much less preparation than dental crowns.

Because porcelain veneers overlay natural enamel, they provide additional strength to the tooth, which may help prevent stress fractures or prevent stress fractures
from worsening.

A Minor Cosmetic Dental Procedure

Getting porcelain veneers is virtually pain-free because very little of your natural tooth is affected. Preparing the tooth requires removing a very thin layer (usually less than 1mm) of enamel. Minor resizing is all that is necessary to ensure adequate space for the porcelain veneer overlay. The resized tooth is then treated with a special resin that protects the tooth and allows for a stronger adhesive bond. Adhesive is painted on to the tooth and the porcelain veneer overlay set into place.

Minor discomfort associated with the procedure, which may include temporary tooth sensitivity, subsides in a few days and may be treated with OTC pain relievers.
